Over time, the face begins exhibiting signs of age. From wrinkles and fine lines to hollowness in the cheekbones, these signs of age can rob patients of their youthful look as well as their self-confidence. At Glacial Sands OMS, we offer a range of non-surgical solutions to reverse these signs of aging. We are particularly proud to offer volumizing fillers to our patients in Chesterton, IN.

What Is a Dermal Filler?

Fillers are substances that can be injected under the skin to increase tissue volume. There are many FDA-approved injectable fillers, such as JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, and Revanesse®. The main ingredient in these medications is hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that helps stimulate collagen production. As the body produces collagen, it triggers a “plumping” effect. This plumping effect can enhance the definition of facial features, “fill in” wrinkles and folds, and also restore volume that has been lost. Other materials that can be considered fillers are PRF and autologous fat (fat that has been harvested from your body and transferred to the desired area). Each type of filler has its own unique benefits and applications.

Conditions Treated

Fillers can be an effective treatment for any facial condition that stems from lost volume. Some of the most common conditions treated by injectable fillers include:

  • Decreased lip volume
  • Lipstick lines
  • Hollow or sunken cheekbones
  • Tear trough hollows
  • Deep nasolabial folds
  • Acne scars
  • Small dorsal nasal hump

If you have any questions about your eligibility for filler treatment, we recommend making an appointment for a one-on-one consultation.

Our Process

An initial consultation helps to confirm that your condition is treatable with injectable fillers. This also provides an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about the treatment, recovery, or results.

Dr. Bennett goes to great lengths to make this procedure painless. She will first administer a numbing cream to the areas to be injected. Then, she makes several small injections of a local anesthetic to numb patients’ lips and surrounding areas.

How Are Fillers Administered?

Fillers are injected using small needles and administered to the lips, wrinkles, or folds. The actual injection only takes minutes. Ice is placed on the area immediately after the injections. Some swelling will usually occur, but patients should be able to return to work the next day. Rarely do some patients experience more significant swelling. Some minor bruising may also occur and can be hidden with concealer. First-time filler patients may want to schedule their treatment during a time when they don’t have big plans for the next several days. It is also good to refrain from aspirin or drugs that delay clotting for 1-2 weeks to decrease bruising when injecting fillers.

Recovery Process

For the first 24 hours or so, patients will want to avoid rubbing or massaging the treatment area. Strenuous exercise should also be avoided.

Dr. Bennett recommends returning in two weeks to check on results and make sure everything is symmetric. Occasionally, a touch-up may be required during a follow-up appointment. Using fillers is a sculpting process, and in some cases, it may take multiple appointments to achieve the results desired.
